Last week in San Diego, flight school operators from across the country gathered for FSANA’s 17th Annual International Flight School Operators Conference & Trade Show. We’re beyond thankful for being included in the event as a sponsor. And congratulations are in order to the association on their name change and announcement of an expanded global focus: FSAI looks great on them.
If you couldn’t make it, the short version of three days of programming is this: the industry is evolving fast. Expectations are rising. And student progress is becoming the defining metric of success.
And one theme showed up everywhere: flight schools need better visibility, stronger consistency, and smarter systems to move students from enrollment to completion — without losing control of operations.
On our end, we shared a major announcement: ground-breaking new innovations are coming to our Flight Ops software, Flight Schedule Pro by Pilotbase. (We also announced we’re changing our name to Pilotbase and expanding what our platform offers to support flight schools; read our announcement if you missed the news).
Industry sessions at FSANA clearly outlined five ways flight schools can grow this year. Here’s how we’re already leveling up our platform to help.
Growth Avenue #1: Improve Accountability Around Student Progress
The “CFI & Student Focus” and “Business of Flight Training” tracks were full of conversations about retention, student financing, marketing to Gen Z, and turning enrollments into completions.
Generally, interest in flight training is high. But enrollment alone doesn’t drive school growth. Completion does. And what many schools struggle with today is keeping students progressing predictably.
Operators, instructors, and students themselves can all play a part in ensuring students complete training on time.
We believe data is the key to improving accountability, and it’s why our platform is built specifically to address this. Flight Ops connects:
- Training ops with real-time student progress
- Financing readiness with operational performance
- Instructor alignment with measurable milestones
- Verified training records with career visibility
Growth Avenue #2: Fine-tune Operational Discipline
Sessions on Standardization, Flight Operations, Maintenance, and Legal Challenges reinforced something we’ve always believed – strong operations are the backbone of strong schools.
Error-free mobile document uploads, financing intelligence synced with operational data, and much more are coming soon for all customers.
Side note: We’re doubling down on our commitment to make the world’s most advanced Flight Ops technology, making the platform smarter than ever with AI. This is why we’ve changed our company name to Pilotbase – for a while now, we’ve been so much more than just the “flight scheduling” part of our name.
Growth Avenue #3: Safety and Accountability Can’t Be Side Systems
Safety had its own dedicated track — including closed-door Safety Debriefs and sessions on building proactive safety culture.
Mental health in training was addressed. Legal compliance was discussed. 141 modernization was highlighted in a general session. And it’s not lost on anyone that being able to more accurately demonstrate safety pays off in recruitment and expansion.
Across all of it, the reality that safety has to live inside daily operations stood out.
Safety cannot live in a binder. Or a separate spreadsheet. Or a once-a-quarter review.
That’s why we’re also focused on creating stronger safety and flight insight tools for our flight school partners, with more news soon to come.
Growth Avenue #4: Financing and Access Are Levers
The IAAC Accreditation Workshop highlighted access to federal financial aid, 529 plans, and third-party accreditation benefits. With cost remaining one of the biggest friction points in pilot training, student financing was a full vendor showcase topic.
The financing integration we announced last year has already expanded enrollment at our partner schools. It has also considerably decreased risk because of the visibility it provides.
Flight Schedule Pro by Pilotbase empowers schools to track student progress, pacing, performance, and proficiency—all in one platform. This gives you accurate reporting and enhanced visualizations to not only meet lender requirements but also improve operations and drive student success.
When you connect performance, progress, and funding, financing is no longer a barrier but instead a massive growth engine.
Growth Avenue #5: Give the Next Generation the Experiences They Expect
Sessions like “Meeting Gen Z,” “Modern Teaching,” and “Capturing the Next Generation” made the expectations of today’s students clear. Phone in hand, Gen Z students expect instant answers and to self-serve. They don’t want fragmented systems. They don’t want uncertainty.
The next generation of student pilots are seeking:
- Mobile-first experiences
- Real-time visibility
- Clear milestones
- Accountability
- Purpose

In our FSANA booth, current flight school partners exclusively got their hands on our brand new, mobile-first student and instructor view. Designed specifically to meet the needs of this generation of students, the Pilotbase pilot app will help schools keep students engaged with training. For students, it promotes habits, learning, and discipline. And it vastly improves visibility for operators, instructors, and students.
Our goal: drive better student behavior because it’s only a win for students, it’s better outcomes and a competitive advantage for schools.
Pilotbase’s Pilot Experience Platform – How Our Innovations Come Together to Supercharge Flight Ops
Flight training organizations are being asked to do more — with tighter margins and higher scrutiny.
We owe it to flight schools to help. At FSANA, we announced how we will:
- Ensure Flight Schedule Pro by Pilotbase is the most advanced Flight Ops solution ever made – with even more major enhancements coming.
- Make your Flight Ops software even more powerful by enhancing the Pilotbase platform Flight Schedule Pro is a part of. A platform that lets schools connect their students to more financing, career opportunities, and more.
